Cultural Style Week 2023 is nearly here and we are proud to announce our children's fashion show and fundraiser event for Refugee Action and Refugee Education UK, as part of the week's activities.
Cultural Style Week is an exciting week-long event that promises to get everyone talking about culture. It’s that one week in the year when people from all backgrounds are encouraged to wear their heritage! From 21-27 May, People from all over the world are encouraged to participate and take part wherever they are by proudly wearing their cultural styles across the week, and sharing their pictures online with the tag #culturalstyleweek to connect and share with others.
We are so excited to be hosting the 'My Cultural Style Children's Fashion Show' in London this May as part of the weeks activities. As one of the world’s most diverse cities in the world, London's residents speak more than 300 different languages and originate from all over the world. This profusion of cultures is part of what makes the city so vibrant and we are super excited to open the runway and our event space to London’s younger generation.
For the ‘My Cultural Style Children's Fashion Show’ we will use cultural fashion as a platform for engaging through diversity, but this time with a special focus on the youth. Our young participants will take to the runway, sharing their cultural clothing and talking about what it means to them. There will also be cultural dance performances, spoken word and more!
We want to create a positive impact to foster a greater sense of belonging for the children from our diaspora and refugee communities. Our shows are visually spectacular, but also educational and empowering. Plus it's lots of fun for everyone taking part.
100% of all profits from this event will go to Cultural Style Week 2023, charity beneficiaries Refugee Action and Refugee Education UK who do great work to help displaced people.
Refugee Action has supported refugees and people seeking asylum since 1981. They give expert advice and guidance to those struggling to navigate the failing and unfair asylum system helping them to uphold their human rights and live free from poverty.
Refugee Education UK equips young refugees and asylum seekers in the UK to build positive futures by thriving in education. For each of these young people, REUK offers guidance in overcoming the significant barriers to accessing education, supports their achievement of significant education outcomes and helps them use their education to create meaningful futures in leadership and employment.
Would you like to take part?
To take part, children need to be between four and sixteen years of age and residents of London. Participating children must have their own cultural clothing and be accompanied by an adult. Families can participate together and you can also perform cultural dances and other acts. To apply please click here.
